Privacy

Last updated 25 August 2026.

Flights and tails are stored on the device. There is no accounts backend.

On-device data

TailStory keeps your flights, tails, display name, Sign in with Apple identifier (if you use it), friend fleet cards you import, and notification preference in on-device storage. Miles and hours are calculated from that log.

OpenSky

OpenSky is used for Recent Life when credentials exist, and for occasional past-tail resolution. Those requests send the route and time needed to match a flight, not your name or email.

Aircraft photos

Aircraft photos may come from Wikimedia Commons when we have an exact-tail or airline+type match. Exact-tail shots on Catch next are credited on the card. They are not your personal photos.

Email import

When email import is enabled, confirmation mail is parsed only to extract itinerary fields (date, route, flight number, airline, optional tail). Raw mail is not kept.

No sale of personal data

We do not sell personal data. We do not run crash or analytics SDKs in this version. A diary backup you export is a file you choose to save or send. It is not uploaded to us.

Backup files

Profile can export a JSON copy of flights and tails. Import merges that file into the log on this phone. Export does not include OpenSky credentials.

Sign in with Apple

If you sign in with Apple, the Apple user identifier is stored on this device so the same profile can return. Continue works without Sign in with Apple. We do not receive your Apple password.

Friends

Friends is a fleet-card exchange on this device. There is no friends backend.

Notifications

Reunion alerts are local notifications on your phone. They are not sent through a TailStory server.
